Takashi Harano, M.D., from USC's Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles, and colleagues investigated the initial results of lung transplants using donors who tested positive for COVID-19.

The researchers utilized the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network/United Network for Organ Sharing to identify a total of 29,944 donors, among whom 1,297 individuals tested positive for COVID-19.

Lung transplants derived from donors who tested positive for COVID-19, but were chosen with caution, exhibited similar initial outcomes after transplantation when compared to lung transplants from donors without COVID-19.
