A study published in Heart Rhythm reveals that the COVID-19 pandemic led to increased rates of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), particularly among Hispanic patients.

The data for this study on sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) was sourced from the ongoing PRESTO (Prediction of Sudden Death in Multi-Ethnic Communities) study in Ventura County, CA.

Presumed SCA cases were identified through prehospital EMS reports involving CPR and defibrillation.
