China Eases Travel: No COVID-19 PCR Test

China this week significantly updated its COVID-19 travel testing rules for inbound travelers. Easing COVID-19 travel restrictions is also good news  for foreigners visiting the country for work.

Chinese citizens returning home for May Day and other celebrations. The People’s Republic of China (PRC) will drop the negative COVID-19 PCR test travel requirement as of April 29, 2023.

The PCR test was previously mandatory for all travelers departing for China. Travelers still need to get tested for COVID-19 with an antigen test.

Before the recent change, all travelers to China had to provide a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours of departure. This was in addition to other requirements such as quarantine periods.
